FreeMouse
The helper for your Mac

One download. Once.

FreeMouse on your iPhone talks to a small helper on your Mac. You put it there once. After that it sits in your menu bar as a little mouse and does its job.

  • SystemmacOS 14 Sonoma or later
  • MacApple silicon or Intel
  • PriceFree
  • SignedDeveloper ID, checked by Apple
  • Asks forAccessibility and local network

How to open it the first time

  1. Download and open the file.

Click Download. Your Mac puts FreeMouse.dmg in your Downloads folder. Double-click it: a window opens with FreeMouse and the Applications folder.

Drag FreeMouse to Applications. Don't start it from that window itself. From Applications, your Mac remembers your permission best.

  2. Open FreeMouse, the first time.

Open FreeMouse from Applications. Your Mac asks once whether you want to open an app from the internet. Click Open.

That's normal and exactly right: FreeMouse is checked by Apple (notarization). So you don't have to work around anything in Privacy & Security. If your Mac does ask you to, download FreeMouse again from this page.

  3. Allow Accessibility.

On macOS 15 and later, your Mac first asks whether FreeMouse may look for devices on your network. Choose Allow: that's how your iPhone finds your Mac.

Then click Open System Settings and switch FreeMouse on under Accessibility. The FreeMouse window notices right away and carries on by itself.

  4. Pair your iPhone.

Open FreeMouse on your iPhone and scan the QR code. Or type the code. Done. From now on there's a small mouse in your menu bar, and your iPhone connects by itself.

Check it yourself

Want to be sure you have the real FreeMouse? Open Terminal and type:

Good to know

  • Open at login is off. Want FreeMouse ready as soon as your Mac starts? Switch it on in FreeMouse's settings.
  • A new version is downloaded here. Drag it over the old one in Applications. Your Accessibility permission stays in place.
  • Removing it takes a minute. How is on Support.
